We remember those who died on
the street this year. Click on the stone for the flyer ....
Twenty residents of Ventura County died homeless in 2008. Their names
were remembered at the
Homeless Person's Memorial Service on December 21 at 3:00 p.m. in Plaza
Park.
The service was held on the longest night of the year in
observance of the National
Homeless Persons' Memorial Day.
Two local congregations, the Universalist
Unitarian Church of Santa Paula and the Unitarian Universalist
Church of Ventura, sponsored the event in keeping
with the Unitarian Universalist
principle "to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of
every person."

remarks by Rev. Jan Christian of the Unitarian Universalist Church of
Ventura.
The
service featured the names of those who died homeless,
original music and readings from various religious traditions, all of
which call on their adherents to care for those most in need.
Hot drinks, cookies and bags with personal items were
provided
by the Ventura church's youth group.
The event was featured in stories in the VC
Reporter and the Ventura
County Star.
