Homeless Prevention Subcommittee
The Homeless Prevention Subcommittee meets monthly to consider "10-Year
Strategy..." Recommendation
#1: Implement homeless prevention programs throughout the county
that will prevent at least half (50%) or 1,000 of
the 2,000 households who become homeless each year from becoming
homeless; Implement a community outreach and education campaign
that raises awareness about households at risk of becoming homeless and
provides information about resources available through homeless
prevention programs.
Current topics under consideration are:
- Funding for the Ventura Homeless Prevention Fund (VHPF)
- Overspending on holiday and other purchases
- Skills upgrading for higher income

In December, 2008, the Homeless Prevention Subcommittee's
"Ventura Homeless Prevention Fund (VHPF)" was nationally acclaimed by
the US Interagency Council on Homelessness as the United States' "Innovation Number 1" for homeless prevention!
After Christmas, 2008, Ventura Missionary Church donated over $7,000 to the VHPF, as reported in the Ventura County Star.
